PUTRAJAYA - A former chairman of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) told the High Court, here, today, that he was not appointed to the country's strategic investment company merely to ensure that all decisions made by then-Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak were carried out.
Tan Sri Che Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, 75, who served as 1MDB chairman from to , also refuted the prosecution's claim that he acted as Najib’s proxy within the company.
Kamal Baharin: I put it to you that you are, in fact, Najib’s proxy in 1MDB, ensuring that all suspicious actions could be carried out. Do you agree?"
Che Lodin: I disagree.
Previously, Che Lodin testified that, while he had known Najib for nearly 50 years, their relationship remained strictly professional. He said that their interactions were formal, as Najib was the Minister of Defence during Che Lodin’s tenure at the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).

PUTRAJAYA (Feb 24): There was no "top-down" approach in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), according to the troubled strategic development firm's former chairman, Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin.
Taking the stand in the ongoing 1MDB-Tanore trial as the defence's 12th witness, the year-old said that board decisions were made via consensus, and according to information provided by company management and consultants.
"As I was a non-executive chairman of the board, I depended on the management and consultants to help or guide the board in all decision-making processes. Board decisions were at all times made by consensus.
"As chairman of the board of directors (BOD), I ensured that each board’s decision was made via consensus and not through a vote of majority," he said.
Lodin added that the board played an "active role" in corporate governance. In his page witness statement, he also said that the board acted independently in the decision-making process concerning 1MDB deals.

PUTRAJAYA: The former chairman of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) testified in the High Court today that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) took more than a month to record his statement in connection with the 1MDB probe.
Tan Sri Che Lodin Wok Kamaruddin, 75, who served as chairman from to , said he could not recall the exact number of days but confirmed that it was certainly over a month.
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah while testifying as the 12th defence witness in the former premier’s trial over the alleged misappropriation of RM billion in 1MDB funds.
“Sometimes, the recording would take the entire day. On a few occasions, it even went on until seven or eight o’clock in the evening,“ he said.
The witness told the court that he also spent 20 hours consulting with Najib’s defence team while preparing his page witness statement.
