Mike Rose, Artsci’79, and Sue Riddell Rose, Sc’86, studied geology and geological engineering respectively at Queen’s, but didn’t meet each other until they found themselves working at Shell Canada in Calgary. Both have spent their entire working lives in the oil and gas industry.
Mike founded Berkley Petroleum in He later moved on to start-up Duvernay Oil Corp. just a few months later. At the forefront of the horizontal drilling and multi-stage frac tight gas technology revolution, shareholder value was created through Duvernay, culminating in the sale of the company to Shell Canada in August Mike is now President & CEO of his third company, Tourmaline Oil Corp., a rapidly-growing, intermediate-sized oil and gas exploration and production company focused in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
Sue left Shell for Paramount Resources in and today is President & CEO of Perpetual Energy. Perpetual’s office in Calgary has been home to the Western Canada Queen’s Development Office for more than a decade.

Sue is a member of the Association of Professional Engineering, Geologist and Geophysicists of Alberta, the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and is a Governor of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
Sue is currently actively involved with a number of not-for-profit organizations including UNICEF Canada, Fulbright Canada and is a member of the Board of Trustees of Mount Royal University. Sue recently retired from the Board of Directors of United Way of Calgary and Area and from the Board of Trustees of Queen’s University and is also past Chair of Alberta’s Promise.
Susan Riddell Rose
Ms. Riddell Rose has been a director of Paramount since Since she has been a director and President and since the CEO of Perpetual Energy Inc., a TSX listed energy producer, and its predecessor, Paramount Energy Trust. Ms. Riddell Rose has also been the President Chief Executive Officer and director of Rubellite Energy Inc., a TSX-listed energy producer, since its formation in Prior thereto, Ms. Riddell Rose was a geological engineer and Corporate Operating Officer of Paramount and prior to that, a geological engineer with Shell Canada Limited.
