Conrad Thomas Lant (aka Cronos), born in London, UK, in 15 January , is a musician who is the vocalist and bass player of the influential black metal/speed metal band Venom, from to and from to this day.
Early Life
After joining his high school band Dwarfstar, he joined Guillotine as a guitarist in , where he met Jeffrey Dunn (aka Mantas). In , the original bass player left one week before a gig. Instead of not playing the venue, Lant took up the bass and they changed the band name to Venom. He continued to play the bass throughout his career in Venom. In , the band&#;s vocalist Clive Archer left, leaving Lant to take over this role too.
Solo Career
Lant left the band in to pursue a solo career and occasionally featured in many other bands of a similar genre, including Cronos, Enthroned, Cradle of Filth (Cronos contributed a monologue to the end of the Cradle track, Haunted Shores), Warpath, Massacre, and Necrodeath. He also produced some of the albums for other bands.

Die englische Metal-Band „Venom“ hatte einen großen Einfluss auf viele Metal-Bands der Achtziger und führte zu Stilbrüchen und neuen Richtungen wie Speed-Metal oder Death-Metal. „Venom“ bedeutet in der englischen Sprache „Gift“.
Gerade in den siebziger Jahren war das musikalische Angebot an Metal und Rock auf wenige Bands beschränkt. „Black Sabbath“ galt als schaurig, „Kiss“ oder „Motörhead“ waren bekannt, während Conrad Thomas Lant etwas suchte, das radikaler und auch brutaler sein sollte. Gerade Horroraspekte und Texte, die sich deutlicher über Blut, Satan und Verfall ausdrückten, gab es nicht, daher dachte sich Lant, es sei sinnvoll, eine Band zu gründen, die diese Kriterien erfüllt. So entstand „Venom“.
Conrad Lant, alias Cronos tat sich mit Jeffrey Dunn und Anthony Bray zusammen. Ihre Namen erschienen ihnen für ein derartig radikales Projekt nicht schockierend genug. So suchten sie in

It was in that the teenage Conrad Lant took the name for which he’d become famous. As the bassist and vocalist in Venom, a band on a mission to create the heaviest and scariest music ever heard, he knew that he and his co-conspirators, guitarist Jeff Dunn and drummer Tony Bray, required demonic aliases to match the darkness of their devil-worshipping songs.
The solution lay in astrology and ancient mythology. Born on January 15, , Conrad’s star sign is Capricorn, and as he explains now: “My planet is Saturn, and the Greek god of Saturn is Cronus. So for me it was obvious.”
With Conrad as Cronos, Jeff as Mantas and Tony as Abaddon – the latter two names drawn from Anton Szandor LaVey’s occult bestseller, The Satanic Bible – Venom rose out of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal to define a new form of extreme music immortalised in the title of their second album from Black Metal.
Forty years on from that landmark, Conrad is the sole remaining member of the classic Venom line-up, while Jeff leads a rival act, Venom Inc.,
