PTI govt’s economic model: U-turn ahead
Shaukat Tarin, the government’s new hope on the troubled economic front, has minced no words in stating that Pakistan can no more afford the stabilisation policy adopted by PM Imran Khan. To Tarin, a high growth rate is the only way out of the cluttered, mangled mess that the economy has become over the last two and a half years. Interestingly, Tarin’s views coincide with those of Ishaq Dar — the man who helmed the economy during the previous government, led by Nawaz Sharif, and who believes a high growth rate is the panacea for all that ails the economy currently. Dar is he who Imran and his loyalists have kept punching for, what they say, generating artificial growth mainly by adopting a fixed exchange rate regime to contain an otherwise high flying dollar and keep the inflation low — and the masses happy.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's former finance minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Shaukat Tarin announced on Friday that he is quitting the party and politics, reported ARY News.
In a statement, Tarin said, "I have decided to quit PTI and politics after consulting with friends and family members."
"The last two years were very difficult for me due to health and financial issues," he added.
"In as finance minister under PPP, I helped save the country from impending default and stabilized the economy. Also concluded a consensus on National Finance Commission award after 19 years," he further said.
He went on to say that as the finance minister during the PTI government, he "clocked the best economic performance in 17 years as stated in the economic survey of Pakistan of ".
Earlier, Tarin served as an advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue, according to ARY News, adding that he was appointed as the finance minister in

Automation in FBR is Important for Taxpayers Facilitation, Shaukat Tarin
The Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance & Revenue, Mr. Shaukat Tarin chaired an important meeting on Automation at FBR (HQs), Islamabad on December 22, The meeting was attended by Chairman FBR/Secretary Revenue Division, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, Member FBR (IT) Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad Tunio, Chief Information Officer (CIO) Mr. Mansoor Sultan and Chairman of Board of Governors PRAL, Syed Javed.
The Adviser on Finance & Revenue was apprised of the progress made on the automation initiatives, data center upgradation and initiatives on data security. The Adviser emphasized on the critical importance of automation for taxpayer facilitation, administrative efficiency and transparency. He also directed FBR to take all necessary measures for ensuring security of taxpayers’ data and remarked that all the required resources will be made available for the desired purpose. He further added that a proper monitoring mechanism must be established for signature initiatives taken by the government.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has sought permission from the Ministry of Interior to arrest former finance minister Shaukat Tarin in a case pertaining to his alleged role in derailment of the deal with International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Informed sources told Dawn the FIA that completed preliminary inquiry into Tarin’s audio leaks saw Tarin’s leaked conversations as an ‘attempt to disrupt’ the IMF loan programme and funds, thereby causing harm to the national interest.
The FIA sought approval of interior ministry to initiate legal proceedings against Mr Tarin, leading to his arrest, the sources added.
Two audio leaks had surfaced in August last year in which a man purportedly ex-minister Tarin can be heard guiding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab finance ministers, belonging to the PTI, to tell the PDM coalition government in the centre and the IMF that they would not be able to commit to a provincial budget surplus in light of the monsoon floods that wrought havoc across Pakistan.
