A speedy, talented and versatile infielder, Sandy Alomar Sr. spent half a century in professional baseball as a player, coach, and manager. That time included 11 full seasons plus parts of four others in the majors from through Alomar made the American League All-Star team in and was a member of the New York Yankees when they reached the World Series in His biggest contribution to professional baseball, however, might have been his two very talented sons. Santos Alomar Conde was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico on October 19, His parents were Demetrio Alomar Palmieri, a sugar-mill machine operator, and Rosa Conde Santiago.
