Dalligna's felting classes:
Marjolein Dallinga began studying graphic arts and trained painting at the Minerva Academy, a fine arts institute in her hometown, Groningen. In Dallinga moved to Montreal, Canada, to pursue an art career through book and jewellery making. She began to teach art classes and run toy-making courses.  She married and raised a family of three boys, still living in Canada today. Caring for a family increased the demand of physical space in her home. Due to this, Dalligna gradually focused on smaller and less demanding creativities than painting.
Dalligna's studio workshop:
Dalligna developed a love of sheep and sheep’s wool and took a course in this area, particularly focusing on felting. She developed her techniques through felting toys and other accessories such as handbags, hats, shawls and mittens. Felting was a medium she could express herself in as she had done in painting, while the process fitted in with her family lifestyle. She was soon encouraged to teach others about the art of h her course work, Dalligna gained greater contacts leading to increased opportunities. Biography

Marjolein Dallinga is a hands-on person and her creativity from an early age on stems from her love of living things, horses and riding, movement and colors. She did training in graphic arts and painting at Minerva Academy, a fine arts institute in Groningen Holland, where she was born, but spent subsequent years doing mostly painting and drawing. She came to Canada in , married and raised a family of three boys.

With the increasing demand for physical space at home, she gradually turned from painting to focus on smaller and less demanding creative things such as toys, during which time she met sheep and sheep’s wool and took a course in working with wool, particularly felting.

Felting is an ancient technique which allows unlimited freedom in the creative process which demanding very limited mechanical intervention such as weaving in a loom.

She also found it to be a medium in which she could express herself as she had done in her painting. Felting is also an activity which readily fits in with her lifestyle while caring for a family.

We are pleased to present artist Marjolein Bastin, known for her nature artwork and paintings.

Marjolein Bastin&#;s Connection To Nature From the Start

Marjolein Bastin&#;s works were recognized very early in her career after attending the Academy of Arts in Arnhem, The Netherlands when she was asked to illustrate a one-page feature for the popular Dutch women’s weekly &#;Libelle&#;. A periodical for which she continues to illustrate for today.

Still, that doesn&#;t include her earliest work or inspirations. Marjolein started collecting inspirational images as a toddler when her parents put her in touch with nature by removing her from her baby carriage, placing her in the grass of their home in the Netherlands and allowing her to feel and see it firsthand. Some of her earliest memories are the sights, sounds and smells she experienced from this vantage point. That connection to nature stayed with her as she grew into a child and adolescence. She would regularly collect little treasures from nature like flowers, interesting rocks, pine cones or seeds. She could find pleasure or beauty in the simplest of objects from the outdoors.
