What next for outgoing Bihar top cop Gupteshwar Pandey?
On September 20, when Gupteshwar Pandey, as the DGP of Bihar, was on a “formal visit” to the state’s Buxar district—also his birthplace—he was asked by the local media to comment on the speculation that he may contest the upcoming assembly election. Pandey dismissed the reports as rumours that have been following him for the past six months. However, while in Buxar, he did have a meeting with the district president of the ruling Janata Dal (United).
Two days later, as the Bihar government accepted Pandey’s request for voluntary retirement (VRS), there was renewed speculation as to what the outgoing police officer’s next career move would be.

Pandey, who served Bihar police for over 30 years, had hit the national headlines in the aftermath of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. He had accused the Mumbai police of conducting a lax probe and had become a talking point on social media. Though Pandey has rejected suggestions that his VRS was linked to the Rajput case, a four-minute video song declaring him as the “Robinhood of Bihar” has started doing the round

In an Exclusive Interview former Bihar DGP Supteshwar Pandey reveals what made him to quit his job and how he found solace in sainthood.
Former Bihar Director General of Police (DGP) Gupteshwar Pandey, who took voluntary retirement from his service in September to briefly join politics, has now acquired a completely different role – a saint. Pandey, who joined Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) just ahead of assembly elections, was not given a ticket to contest the polls. However, Pandey, who was known as the ‘Super Cop’, seems to have left all that in the past as he claims to have shunned all materialistic things.
During an exclusive interaction with News18, Pandey shed light on his life – from Bihar DGP to a politician and finally a saint. Following are the excerpts from the interview.
