A doctor by training, Dr Brian A McNamee was enjoying himself in various job roles starting out as product manager, a job that he took on while on a vacation with his wife in Europe. Time rolled by. He put in 11 years gaining expertise in various aspects of running a company. It was in his mids, that he got the opportunity to head a sick government enterprise-Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL). Dr Brian A McNamee took that as a challenge and changed the face of CSL. Today, CSL is a global specialty biopharmaceutical company.
Recalling the state of affairs at CSL in , Dr McNamee says, "When I joined CSL there had been a very negative assessment of the company done by Anderson Consulting. It documented the company as one with a negative cash flow, low profitability and a limited future. But, then I believed that the industry and the company had tremendous potential."

Skills and experience
Dr McNamee has deep executive experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on strategy and creating long-term shareholder value. Dr McNamee has a broad global perspective and understanding of long-term capital projects in the pharmaceutical industry, with proven health, safety, environment and corporate responsibility.
Dr McNamee was the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of CSL from until Since leaving his executive role at CSL, Dr McNamee has served as a Senior Advisor to private equity group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. He has also pursued a number of private equity and interests in small cap healthcare companies, and in served on the panel of the Australian Government’s Financial System Inquiry. In , he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for service to business and commerce.
